Prince Uche Secondus
Prince Uche Secondus was Born 22 March 1955, in Andoni, Rivers State. He completed his Elementary and Secondary education in Rivers State. In fact, he is an old boy of the famous Catholic Stella Maris College, Port Harcourt.
He further attended the London Chambers of Commerce Institute where he obtained a certificate in Commerce. A private Sector person whose entrepreneurial skill was shown when he managed the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce as Deputy President, a discipline and competence he brought into politics and which have aided his managerial prowess greatly.
Secondus desire to improve the lives of Riverians led to his entering politics during the Second Republic in 1978. He served as Rivers State Youth Leader of the Defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Rivers State Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) (1993 – 1998), and Rivers State Chairman of the Defunct Democratic Party of Nigeria, DPN and a two-term Chairman of the Rivers State People’s Democratic Party.
While serving as the State Party Chairman, he earned the sobriquet “Total Chairman”, and became the founder and head of the then influential Group of 84 in the Party’s National Executive Committee structure.
In 2007, Secondus was the South-South Coordinator for the PDP National Campaign Council that organized the campaigns for the Party during that year’s general elections. In 2008, at the People’s Democratic Party Convention, he gained further promotion to National Organizing Secretary, holding office until 2012.
Secondus has also held some very critical positions in private and public sector where he also excelled; Chairman board of Directors of Port Harcourt Flour Mill from 2001 to 2013; Member Rivers State Tender’s board 2003 to 2005; Chairman, National Insurance Commission, 2004 to 2009; Director, Nigeria Railways 2008 to 2009, Member, the TY Danjuma led Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North East from 2013 to 2015; became the pioneer Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), between 2010 and 2015. While at NIMC he was exposed to a number of rewarding international courses, Conferences and Seminar in Japan, Paris, and United States.
On 1 September 2013, he was elected Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. He also briefly served as Acting National Chairman of the Party, following the resignation of Adamu Mu’azu in 2015.
On December 10, 2017, he emerged victorious in a well contested position of National Chairman at a National Convention of the Party in Abuja.
He is married to Pastor Mrs. Ene Belema Secondus, currently a Permanent Secretary in Rivers State Public Service. They are blessed with children.
